Saharawi human rights activists denounce campaign of defamation against Ali Salem Tamek

El Aaiun, 11/05/2005 (SPS) Saharawi human rights activists in occupied territories of Western Sahara denounced on Tuesday the policy of segregation Moroccan authorities are leading against Saharawi human right activist and former political prisoner, Ali Salem Tamek, in a petition of solidarity publicised the same day.

"This campaign reached its extremity in Moroccan official means of communication (Moroccan Press agency MAP among others) under the orders of Moroccan secret services. The latter forced five members of the activist's family to sign a false press release, last May the 3rd 2005", indicated the petition of which SPS receive a copy.

The text is signed by more than 550 persons so far, 50 of whom are Saharawi human rights activists living in occupied territories of Western Sahara.

"This petition will be opened to signatures in web sites soon. It will thus be an opportunity for all supporters of democracy and justice not only to express their condemnation to this Moroccan campaign against Saharawi activists but also to condemn the colonisation of Western Sahara and protest against the intransigence of Rabat and its refusal to submit to the international legality by allowing Saharawi people to freely determine their future", indicated Saharawi activist to SPS correspondent on the ground.

Moroccan authorities launched a new campaign of defamation against Saharawi human rights activist and ex-political prisoner, Ali Salem Tamek, on Tuesday. They used a pretended press release some members of his family signed.

Moroccan press agency, MAP, the main mean of the Moroccan colonial propaganda, did manage no qualifiers of segregation against the activist. Thus he is "a traitor", "a renegade", to pretend then that his family rejected him and "from the family, tribal and national unity."

Reacting to this act of defamation 70 members of TAMEK family "categorically" denied the authenticity of a press release used last May the 3rd by Moroccan press in its recent campaign against Saharawi human rights activist and former political prisoner, Ali Salem Tamek.

They signed a press release, publicised Friday, to condemn the use of the name of the family to “sow ill-feeling and discord within the family, and seek to implicate it in a conspiracy against one of its best sons, in this case, Ali Salem Tamek" it should be recalled. (SPS)
