Algiers,
09/08/2004 (SPS) The Mayor of the Community of Algiers Centre, Tayeb
Zeitouni, affirmed Sunday in the Orassi that Algiers supports
"self-determination for Saharawi people within the framework of the
international legality and pertinent resolutions of the Security
Council", to allow Saharawi people to freely determine their future.
In margin of the week of solidarity of Algerian people with the
Saharawi people, Mr. Tayeb Zeituni reasserted the position of principle
of his country during a dinner he offered on the honour of the
participating Saharawi delegation, with the presence of many Algerian
political figures, Parliament members and scholars.
The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is represented in this
event by an important delegation chaired by Saharawi Prime Minister,
Abdelkhader Taleb Oumar, accompanied with the minister of occupied
territories and communities, Khalil Sidi Mohamed, the Wali of El Aaiun,
Mansour Oumar, the Minster of culture and sports, Mariem hmada, and
SADR's Ambassador to Algiers, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat and his staff.
During this week of solidarity, which is taking place from the 3rd to
the 10th August in Algiers Centre, the two peoples, Algerian and
Saharawi, will animate shows, conferences, meetings and other
activities.
In this respect, Mr. Taleb Oumar was received Saturday by his Algerian
counterpart, Ahmed Ouyahya, at the Seat of the latter's Government with
the presence of Algerian Secretary of State for foreign affairs in
charge for African and Maghreb's affairs, Abdelkader Messahel.
The Saharwi ministerial delegation visited earlier the University
"M'Hamed Bougara" in Boumerdes, where the General Union of Independent
Students (UGEL) had organised a conference under the theme "Freedom".
On another hand, many political figures, Parliament members and
scholars took part to a conference organised by the Association
"Mechaal al-chahid" (Torch of Martyr) Sunday in Algiers at the Press
Centre of the Algerian newspaper El-Moudjahid in solidarity with
Saharawi people in its struggle for self-determination. (SPS)
