SPS New demonstrations in the occupied city of El Aaiun demand the release of the Saharawi political prisoners 08.02.06

El Aaiun (occupied territories), 08/02/2006 (SPS) Hundreds young Saharawis participated in new demonstration of protest asking for the unconditional release of all the Saharawi political prisoners and human rights activists, incarcerated in the Moroccan prisons, and demanding their people’s right to exercise their right to self-determination and independence, reported SPS’s correspondent.
The demonstrators were composed of old persons and the students of El Aaiun, who were chanting slogans expressing their rejection of autonomy and calling the "Moroccan State to unconditionally release all Saharawi political prisoners and human rights activists", the same source added.
The Moroccan forces of repression immediately intervened to disperse the peaceful demonstrators and seal the surroundings of the demonstration, it was indicated.
It should be underlined that the Moroccan forces of repression proceeded to the increase of the electricity voltage in the city so as to prevent Saharawi youth from putting flags on electricity pole.
This operation damaged many computers belonging to Saharawi citizens and families, who were not warned about the decision undertaken by the Moroccan authorities in increasing the voltage of electricity, the same source added.
The students of two secondary schools in the occupied city, El Aaiun, called on the international community, on Thursday, to "exercise pressures on the Moroccan Government so as to compel it submit to the international legality and enable Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination", it should be recalled. SPS At least five Saharawi citizens arrested in Goulimine in the south of Morocco

Goulimine (South of Morocco), 08/02/2006 (SPS) Five Saharawi citizens at least, including a human right activist, Mohamed Lamine Essahel, were arrested on Monday evening after peaceful marches and demonstrations that took lace the same day in the Moroccan southern city, in which demonstrators called for the respect of the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, concordant sources indicated.
The Moroccan forces of repression arrested the Saharawi human rights activist, Mohamed Lamine Essahel, "because of his activities in defence of human rights and denunciation of the flagrant violations committed by the Moroccan authorities against the Saharawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara", the same sources said.
4 other Saharawis, mainly Rgueibi Lakhlipha, Lakraimi Moustapha, Chekraoui Bachir and Aabani Brahim, were also arrested the same day during a peaceful marches that took place in Goulimine, the same sources added.
3 Saharawi trade unionists, Mrs. Moutik Khadija, Mrs. Bouda Aziza and Mrs. Esghir Attifa, were arrested and brutalised by the Moroccan authorities of repression after a demonstration organised last October 2005 in Goulimine because they "protested against the visit of the king of Morocco to their city and demanded the immediate release of Saharawi political prisoners", it should be recalled.
"The 3 Saharawi women were arrested in October the 5th at 11.00 GMT in Goulimine after a sit-in organised earlier in front of the seat of the governor of Goulimine. The police resumed to violence to disperse the demonstrators with truncheons injuring dozens". (SPS)

SPS CNASPS calls on the Algerian civil society to the organisation of a humanitarian caravan in favour of the Saharawi refugees

Algiers, 08/02/2006 (SPS) The Algerian National Committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS) is planning to organise an Algerian national humanitarian caravan of solidarity with the Saharawi people so as to bring to the Saharawi refugees "assistance and humanitarian aid", the Committee announced on Tuesday in a press release reported by the Algerian Press Agency, APS .
CNASPS called on Algerian citizens to join efforts an "answer to the call recently launched by the Saharawi Red Crescent (CRS)".
The latter, it should be recalled, recently launched and "urgent" call for humanitarian aid so as to face the "seriousness of the situation" because of the dangerous decrease of the basic food and medical products that will be a serious problem since the beginning of this March 2006.
In this respect, the CNASPS exhorted Algerian "citizens, associations, national organisations, elected officials, businessmen and donors" to join force and "bring the necessary help and urgent humanitarian assistance to babies, children, old persons and women in the Saharawi refugees camps".
To "deposit the help and so as it can arrive to the right destination in the best conditions", the Committee called the Algerians to contact the basic seats of the Algerian Red Crescent in all the Wilayas and cities of the country, Algerian Press Agency added. (SPS)

SPS Ecuador and the Saharawi Republic declare the re-establishment of diplomatic relations

Quito (Ecuador), 08/02/2006 (SPS) The Republic of Ecuador and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic announced the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two States, The Ministries for Foreign Affairs of the two countries declared Today in a joint press release, of which SPS received a copy.
Here is the complete text of the press release, signed Today in Quito by the Saharawi Minister for Foreign Affairs and his Equatorial counterpart, respectively Mohamed Salem Ould Salek and Francisco Carrión Mena:
Inspired by the principles and objectives of the United Nations’ Charter and conforming to the Geneva Convention on diplomatic relations, the Governments of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Republic of Ecuador both decided Today to re-establish diplomatic relations to the benefit of the ties of friendship and cooperation of the two peoples and Governments.
By signing this joint press release, the Government of the Republic of Ecuador affirms the universal character of its foreign policy, as well as its respect of all peoples right to self-6detrmination as well as the juridical equality of States, as pillars of peace, security and cooperation in the international relations.
This press release was signed in the Quito city, on February the 8th 2006.
