SPS Closure of the annual National conference of the Committee for Foreign Affairs 08.01.06

27 of February (refugee camps), 08/01/2006 (SPS) The National conference of the Committee for Foreign Affairs closed its works, on Sunday evening in the 27 of February School, under the chairmanship of the Head of the State, Mohamed Abdelaziz, in addition to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister, with the presence of Saharawi Ambassadors, Polisario Front’s Representatives and the staff of the Saharawi Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Members of the National Secretariat, Government and military and civil cadres.
Mr. Abdelaziz indicated that this year was marked by "very important" events and diplomatic achievements, especially the increase of the impact, on an international level, of the Saharawi popular resistance in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in addition to the recognition, by Kenya and the Republic of Oriental Uruguay, of the Saharawi Republic.
On another hand, the President of the Republic called the international community to the "protection of the Saharawi population", who is suffering from the violation of its most fundamental rights, including the right to free expression and self-determination.
The session was marked by the interventions of many participants, who tackled different subjects exposing their visions and their opinions over the best ways to ameliorate the Saharawi diplomatic work, and discussing the problems and challenges they have to rise.
The conference, which started on Saturday by a close meeting of the members of the diplomatic corps, was also an occasion to discuss themes of the international humanitarian aid to the Saharawi refugee camps, which knows a serious shortage.
It also discussed the ways to reinforce the international solidarity and the better means to reorganise and dynamize the annual programme of the Saharawi children’s vacations abroad.
Finally, the conference adopted a very ambitious programme of action for the year 2006, which will essentially tries "to embody the sacrifices of the uprising Saharawi population, since last May, in the different Saharawi occupied cities, in tangible diplomatic realisations", it was indicated.
