Vitoria (Basque Country), 06/11/2006 (SPS) The 32nd edition of the European Coordinating Conference of support to the Saharawi people (EUCOCO) launched an appeal to the Spanish Government to review its position regarding the Western Sahara and pay more efforts for the decolonisation of the Saharawi territory, reported the Spanish imminent newspaper, El Pais, in its Monday edition.

The conference recalled Spain "its historical and moral responsibility as the former occupying power of the Western Sahara", blaming the Government of Zapatero for "the abstractionist position during the last vote of a resolution of the UN General Assembly on the Western Sahara, which was approved by the majority of the European country", the Spanish newspaper indicated.

"The conference, the newspaper adds, insistently ask for the organisation of a self-determination referendum and denounces the Moroccan repression in the ex-Spanish colony", as well as "the massive human rights violations, especially perpetrated against women".

The conference also called on the UN to publish the report on the human rights situation lately realised by a UN High Commissioner for Human Rights mission to the Non-Self-Governing territory, the newspaper indicated. (SPS)

Vitoria (Basque Country), 06/11/2006 (SPS) The Moroccan political party ''Annahj Addimocrati'' (the Democratic Path) reiterated its support to the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and condemned the human rights violations committed by the Moroccan State n the occupied territories of the Western Sahara.

In a message to the 32nd edition of the European Coordinating Conference of support to the Saharawi people (EUCOCO), signed by the National Secretary of the Annahj Addimocrati, Mr. Abdallah Elharif, the Moroccan Party recalled that it has underlined in the Party’s first congress in 2004, ''the need to resolve the Western Sahara conflict within the framework of the international legality based on the self-determination referendum''.

Annahj Addimocrati also denounced, in its message read during the closing ceremony of the EUCOCO Conference, the human rights violations in the Western Sahara.

In this respect, it recalled having refused twice to participate to meetings at the Moroccan Royal Cabinet to discuss the question of the Western Sahara, so as ''to cut the road in the face of any attempt by the regime to set the confusion'' regarding the Party’s position. (SPS)
