SADR/ALGERIA/WEEK OF THE SADR

The Saharawi Government calls on the international community to recognise the Saharawi Republic

Algiers, 06/07/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi Prime Minister, Abdelkhader Taleb Oumar, recalled on the international community, on Thursday, to "defend the legality" through the recognition of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), estimating that this recognition as a "global and logical" answer to the refusal by "the Moroccan occupier" of the Saharawi people’s right to freedom.

"We also invite the international community to oeuvre so as to put an end to the blockage imposed on the occupied territories" by Morocco, the Saharawi Prime Minister added during the ceremony of the opening of the summer university of Polisario Front, which took place in the complex Laadi Flici (théâtre des verdures) in Algiers.

He further called on the international community "to exercise pressures on the forces of occupation so as to allow observers, NGOs and Medias to have access to the occupied territories", underlining that "the stability and security in the region unavoidably passes by the end of the occupation.

"The conflict of Western Sahara is considered by the international law as a decolonisation question and its solution can only be in the exercise by the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination", he underlined.

On another hand, he indicated that the activities undertaken in the summer university, especially the meeting between Saharawi a Algerian elected officials and the cultural activities, is a proof on the "extent and deepness of the solidarity and indefectible position of the Algerian State and people in favour of the Saharawi cause".

On his side, the former Head of the Algerian Government, Mr. Reda Malek, animated a conference in which he tackled the long Algerian struggle to gain their freedom and to build the Algerian State after the independence.

In this respect, he indicated that the independence of the Saharawi people is an "inalienable right", underlining that "the construction of the great Maghreb must not be achieved to the detriment of the people of the Western Sahara". (SPS)
