Chahid El Hafed, 06/06/04
(SPS) The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, affirmed on Saturday
during a meeting held in the presidency, that Spanish Government "has categorically
denied the existence of any solution to Western Sahara's conflict apart from
international legality".
During this meeting, to which the political leadership, Government and other
civil and military officials took part, the debates focussed on the last
developments of the national question, especially the official visit undertaken
by Spanish Foreign affairs Ministry's Secretary of State, Bernardino Leon
Gross, to refugees camps on Wednesday, where he had a meeting with Polisario
Front's leadership and with SADR's Government.
Mr. Abdelaziz asserted that the mentioned visit was aimed to "reaffirm Spain's
firm will to contribute in reaching a just and lasting solution to Western
Sahara's conflict on the basis of international legality and within the framework
of United Nations".
"The Spanish Government, added the Head of State, did not propose and does
not support any solution to Western Sahara's conflict apart from international
legality or out of the auspices of the United Nations, as long as Western
Sahara's question remain an unachieved case of decolonisation".
On another hand, Mr. President estimated that the regional and international
conditions, "are suitable for Spain to play a particular role in contributing
to get the process of settlement out of the stagnation it knows for more
that a decade".
"The international community should sanction Moroccan Kingdom's intransigence
and policy of rushing ahead", he said.
Mr. Abdelaziz asserted that the future relationships between Saharawi people
and Spain "will increasingly develop the co-operation between the two parties
in the human, sanitary, educational fields (among others) because the Saharawi
question constitute a particular interest not only to the Government but
also to the political forces and to the Spanish people who had always backed
us". (SPS)
