Closure of the 12th Cultural Seminar for the communication between Saharawi generations

27th of February School, 05/04/2005 (SPS) The 12th Cultural Seminar, held from the 3rd to the 4th April, was closed Monday in the 27 of February School, with the adoption of the reports of the workshops.

The seminar witnessed many interventions from the participants and was marked by two interventions, via phone call from occupied territories, of the Saharawi human right activist, Mrs. Aminatu Haydar, who participated as a honorific participant and a consultative member to the workshop of the Intifada and human rights.

The discussions were also marked by the "memorable" interventions, according to a participant, of Algerian poet, Mrs. Rachida M’Hamdi, who expressed her "great admiration" of the dynamism in the communication between the Saharawi generations.

The 4 workshop presented their reports Monday followed by many interventions and concluded by a speech given by Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Oumar, who expressed his satisfaction with this important space opened for the continuity of the principles and norms of the Saharawi revolution. (SPS)

A Saharawi activists intervenes via phone call to the works of the 12th Cultural Seminar




27th of February School, 05/04/2005 (SPS) In an intervention before of the 12th Cultural Seminar, the former political prisoner and human rights activist, Mrs. Minatu Haydar, asked the international community, on Monday from occupied El Aaiun, to allow "Saharawi people freely determine over their future through a democratic and transparent referendum organised and supervised by the United Nations".

Intervening by telephone during the closing plenary of the Cultural Seminar organised in the 3 and 4 April by the Saharawi Woman National Union in the 27th of February School camp, Mrs. Aminatu Haydar called the international community "to pressure Morocco to conform with the international legality and to put an end to its systematic violations of human rights in occupied territories of Western Sahara".

The activist, who was designated member of honour to the seminar and consultative member to the workshop of the Intifada and human rights, talked about systematic violations perpetrated by "Moroccan colonial authorities against Saharawi citizens, in particular human rights activists".

In this respect she called the international community and international human rights organizations to express their solidarity with "the symbol of resistance and Saharawi leader, Ali Salem Tamek, who is recently subjected to a campaign of defamation organized by many means of communication of the Makhzen who attacked his right to free expression".

"The military and media siege imposed on occupied territories of Western Sahara is such that Saharawi citizens wonder if there really is an international community, a justice or an international law", she deplored.

Mrs. Haydar also called the participants to more vigilance and readiness to counter Moroccan attempts to "erase from existence the Saharawi national identity and Saharawi culture". She underlined the need to the "dismantling of the wall of shame", which separates Saharawi and "distort" the landscape.

It should be mentioned that the activist had also addressed a moving speech ; via phone call from occupied Capital, El Aaiun, in which she expressed the unconditioned support of the Saharawi Woman in occupied territories "to her sisters and daughters of the refugees camps, symbol of resistance and guarantee of its continuity".

The 12th Cultural Seminar opened its works on Sunday in the 27 of February school under the theme "continuity + complementarity= liberation + development" of the political and cultural life of the Saharawi woman. The conference is chaired by Mrs. Fatma El Mehdi, Secretary General of Saharawi Woman National Union, and with the participation of an important number of foreign personalities and Saharawi political and cultural cadres.

The conference was divided in four workshops. One for the demographic development, concerned with mothers' health. The second would have to discuss the religious, moral and cultural matters. The third will focus on the struggle for liberation and the means of its development while the fourth is vouched to occupied territories and human rights.

It should be recalled that this conference, which is organised for two days with the presence of foreign delegations from Sweden, France, Spain besides Syria, Sudan and Algeria, is the 12th of its kind organised by the Saharawi woman.

Official visit to SADR by South African Minister for Foreign Affairs




Chahid El Hafed, 05/04/2005 (SPS) South African Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, will undertake an official visit, this Thursday, to the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), accompanied by an important delegation, indicated a close source to the National Direction of Protocol.

This "historical" visit, which comes within the framework of the strengthening of the good relations "linking the two State and peoples all along their struggle for self-determination and independence, will be an opportunity for the Minister to meet Saharawi leaders to deepen the discussion on the questions of common concern and to exchange the points of view over the regional, continental and international questions", underlined the same source.

The Government of SADR, the Direction of Polisario Front and the Saharawi people decided to organise a popular and warm reception Her Excellency. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and the delegation accompanying her deserve, it was added.

During her sojourn, Dr. Zuma will sign some accords with her Saharawi counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, and will be received by the President of the Republic, it was indicated.

Through a joint communiqué signed Wednesday in Cape Town by the Saharawi Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek and Mrs. Nkozazana Dlamini-Zuma, South African Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Republic of South Africa and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic had decided to establish diplomatic relations and to have representations at the level of ambassadors starting from September the 15th, 2004.

This South Africa initiative, which was however expected since years, "will bring a highly valued contribution to the return of peace and stability in the northern part of our continent through a fair and balanced approach towards all peoples of the region ", reads the text of the communiqué.
