SPS SADR/SPAIN/VISIT "Murcia would like to contribute
to pay the debt" of Spain towards Western Sahara, declares the
President of Murcia

04/12/04 (SPS) The President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Mr.
Ramon Luis Valcarcel, declared that "Murcia would like to contribute to
pay the debt" of Spain towards Western Sahara, during his encounter et
the seat of the Parliament with the President of the Republic, Mohamed
Abdelaziz, with the presence of the President of the regional
Parliament, Francisco Celdrán.
After the meeting between President Abdelaziz, who is in a visit to the
autonomous community of Murcia after his visit to Andalusia, and the
Presidents of the autonomous Government of Murcia and of the regional
Parliament in the seat of the Parliament, Mr. Valcarcel affirmed that
"Spain has got a historical debt towards Saharawi people and Murcia
would like to contribute to pay it back".
"We work to increase the humanitarian aid and to reinforce the
institutional relations. My Party, the Popular Party, will do its best
so as the Government of Madrid contribute to the implementation of the
UN's resolutions that consecrate Saharawi people right to
self-determination", he added.
On his part, the Head of the State considered that Spain, "being a
reasonable and responsible power must pay more efforts so as Morocco
return to reason and accept the holding of a referendum", as Portugal
did with East Timor.
Mr. Abdelaziz also reaffirmed that the Saharawi people has got the will
"to build a modern country" and a democratic State that praise the
principles of democracy, law, tolerance and coexistence between
religions and cultures.
On another hand, the Head of the State had a meeting with Mr. Pilar
Barreiro Alvarez, Mayor of the city of Cartagena, and chaired an event
of solidarity, which was attended by many Parliament Members,
representatives, elected officials, scholars and representatives of
associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people in the Community of
Murcia, concluding that way his visit to Spain. (SPS)
SPS RASD/ESPAGNE/VISITE Gaspar Llamazares reiterates
"the commitment" of his party to the for self-determination
Madrid, 04/12/04 (SPS) The
General Coordinator of the Izquerda Unida (Unified Left), Gaspar
Llamazares, reiterated "the commitment" of his party to the Saharawi
people struggle for self-determination and independence, after his
reception Friday to the President of the Republic Mohamed Abdelaziz,
calling the Government of Zapatero by the same occasion to pressure
Morocco to "respect international legality" and enforce the Baker Plan.
In a joint press conference he hold with M. Mohamed Abdelaziz, Mr.
Llamazares reaffirmed that his party has got "a commitment to the
Saharawi people and its right to self-determination", underlining that
Spain remains liable to the Saharawi people of "a historical debt as
long as the decolonisation process is not achieved", in Western Sahara.
Moreover, Llamazares criticised the lack of clarity in the position of
the Government of Zapatero on the Saharawi question, calling it to show
more coherence and to "pressure Morocco to respect the international
legality" and enforce the Baker Plan for a definitive solution to the
conflict.
Morocco is the origin of instability in the Maghreb because of its
rejection of all UN's peace plans and efforts and by "its denial to
Saharawi people their right self-determination through the
implementation of the Baker Plan, Polisario Front courageously accepted
to the price of important concessions and sacrifices", he added.
On another hand, Mr. llamazares underlined the importance of the
activities of the International and Spanish movement of solidarity,
"for whom Saharawi people can not be a bargaining counter in the
Morocco-Spanish relations ", added to the "initiatives undertook by the
Parliamentary groups" to push Madrid put an end to the ambiguity of its
policy on Western Sahara and support international legality to resolve
the conflict.
On his part, the Head of the State denounced the "intransigence" and
irresponsibility of the Moroccan Government, expressing his gratitude
for the support "of Izquiedra Unida to Polisario Front", and calling
the Spanish Government "to maintain a coherent position" on the
conflict, "on the international legality and on peoples rights to
self-determination"
Qualified as "constructive and important" by a close source to the
presidential delegation, the meeting between the Head of the State and
the General Coordinator of the Izquiedra Unida intervened within the
framework of the visit undertook by the President of the Republic on
last November the 26, during which he met with Spanish officials, among
whom the President of the Government, José Louis Rodriguez
Zapatero, as well as Presidents of Political Parties, Presidents of
Spanish Autonomous Governments, Mayors, elected officials and activists
of the movement of solidarity with the Saharawi people in Spain, it

SPS SADR/SPAIN/VISIT The Secretary General of the
UNFS in a visit of contact with the Spanish civil society in Tenerife
Tenerife (Canary Islands),
04/12/04 (SPS) The Secretary general of the Saharawi Women National
Union (UNFS), Fatma El Mehdi, undertook a set of activities in Tenerife
within the framework of contacts with the Spanish civil society and to
arise awareness within the population of this island.
Invited by the Association Canary of friendship with the Saharawi
people and accompanied by Polisario Front representative to Tenerife,
Hamdi Mansour, Mrs. El Mehdi started a week of contact with the Spanish
civil society in Tenerife and to arise awareness among "the population
of this island” indicated a source from Saharawi representation in the
island to SPS.
Three conferences were animated under the theme: "Saharawi Woman: 30
years exile, construction, organisation and social management in the
refugee camps", attended by a large interested audience.
On another hand, Fatma El Mehdi visited some cultural centres, the
University of Alaguna, some schools and visited the seat of the
Parliament of the Canaries, where she was received by the
vice-president and some Parliament Members, who discussed with her the
last development of the national question. (SPS)
SPS SADR/VENEZUELA The Ambassador of the Bolivarian
Republic of Venezuela presents his letters of credit to President
Abdelaziz

Mr. José Luis Perisse handed over his letters of credit, as an
extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Bolivarian Republic of
Venezuela to the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Saturday evening to
the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, at the seat of the
presidency.
Mr. Ambassador was received by the Head of the State with the presence
of the Minister for Cooperation, Salek Baba Hassena, the Ambassador of
the Republic to Venezuela, El Hadj Ahmed, and the Secretary General of
at the Presidency, Daf Mohamed Fadel.
After the ceremony, Mr. José Luis Perisse declared to the
national press that his visit intervene within the framework of the
"reinforcement of the ties of cooperation, and application of the
conventions on collaboration signed by the two Governments",
underlining that he is also a carrier of a message of felicitation from
President Hugo Chavez Frias and the Venezuelan people to President
Abdelaziz and the Saharawi people. (SPS)
