(SPS) Spanish socialist Party (PSOE) in power, expressed its will to
support a just settlement of Western Sahara's conflict within the
framework of UN and to enforce Security Council's resolutions, during
the plenary session of its 36th federal congress, Sunday.
A "strategic" position, with which Socialists "actively" supported
Security Council's efforts and resolutions for "a settlement of Western
Sahara's conflict within the framework of UN and international law",
underlined the report "strategies and political plans", unanimously
adopted during the plenary session of the congress.
It
should be recalled that Saharawi representative in Spain, Brahim Ghali,
who attended the meetings of the 36th congress of Spanish
socialists as a guest of honour Friday, has asserted that Spain "can do
more" in
Western Sahara's conflict, estimating that "it is time for Spanish
Government to assume its due responsibility" as an administrative power
of the Saharawi territory before Moroccan illegal invasion of the
latter in 1975.
On
another hand, he
Co-ordination of Associations of solidarity and friendship with
Saharawi
people (CEAS – Sahara) had called Zapatero, Thursday, to adopt "a
clear
and evident position" for the enforcement of international law in
Western Sahara's conflict, according to a communiqué of the CEAS
handed
over to the Head of the Spanish Executive.
Spain
former colonizing power of the territory, is morally called to make use
of its "good offices for the settlement of a problem it caused and to
which's solution it should contribute", especially that Spanish people
"are supporter with the Saharawi case", and will continue claiming form
their Government to respect their will to defend Saharawi people's

Polisario Front calls PSOE to defend Saharawi people's right to
self-determination
MADRID, 04/07/2004 (SPS) Polisario Front's representative in Spain,
Brahim Ghali, declared, Friday, to Europa Press that his organisation
hopes that the resolutions of the 36th Congress of Spanish Socialist
Labour Party (PSOE- in Spanish) opts to the defence of Saharawi
people's right to self-determinationm conforming to international
legality.
Ghali, who was attending the meetings of the 36th congress of Spanish
socialists as a guest of honour, asserted that Spain "can do more" in
Western Sahara's conflict, estimating that "it is time for Spanish
Government to assume its due responsibility" as an administrative power
of the Saharawi territory before Moroccan illegal invasion of the
latter in 1975.
"We hope the final resolution of PSOE's congress supports Saharawi
people's right to self-determination according to international
legality and to UN's Charter", affirmed the Saharawi diplomat.
polisario representative recalled that Saharawi people "continue
suffering since Spain has abandoned the territory in 1975", adding that
Saharawis still hope to be able "at last to freely chose their future
through a self-determination referendum", conforming to pertinent UN's
resolutions.
Concerning Spanish Government position, the Saharawi official
recognised that there were "a kind of ambiguity" in PSOE's position
regarding Western Sahara's conflict, stressing that it was only cleared
after the last "visit of Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
to the refugees' camps and his meeting with Polisario Front's
