Paris-Dakar across its territories
04.01.05
Chahid El Hafed, 04/01/2005
(SPS) SADR authorised the passage of Paris-Dakar Rally across its
territories, "after many contacts" undertaken by the organisers of the
international sports event with the competent Saharawi authorities,
indicated a statement to the press issued by the Presidency, of which
SPS received a copy.
"The organisers o the 37th Paris-Dakar Rally, and as usual, chose again
the trajectory that crosses the territories of the Saharawi Arab
Democratic Republic", after many contacts undertaken during the year
2004 by the "organisers" of the international sports event "with the
concerned Saharawi authorities", emphasised the statement.
These contacts were culminated by "the visit, last December, of Mr.
Vivian, President of the Organisation Sport Amaury (ASO), which
represents the party in charge of the organisation of the competition",
added the text.
Thus, "the authorities of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic
accepted the petition of the organisers asking for the authorisation of
the passage across the Saharawi territories, and confirmed their
availability to help in the success of this stage of the competition",
also emphasised the statement.
"The Rally will arrive in the evening of the 04/01/2005 to occupied
Smara town, where the participants would have a break, and then it will
set off again in the morning of the 05/01/2005 heading toward the
territories of the Mauritanian Islamic Republic", concluded the text.
The Rally of this year, it should be noted, is marked by the
participation of some 230 trail bikes, the highest number ever
participating in this competition, in addition to some 165 cars and 70
trucks. (SPS)
