Western Sahara: Ban Ki-moon’s visit shows UN intention to assume responsibilities

Addis Ababa, March 18, 2016 (SPS) - The African Union (AU) welcomed the visit of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Western Sahara and the region, hoping that this visit will promote the peace process and allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination.

UN Security Council holds urgent meeting following Morocco's decision to stop financial contribution to Minurso

Washington, March 18, 2016 (SPS)-The United Nations Security Council will hold Thursday an urgent meeting following Morocco's decision to stop its financial contribution to the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso),  a source close to the issue told APS Thursday.  

 

The Security Council will meet at the request of the United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-moon to assess impact of this decision on Minurso.

 

Sahrawi people for relaunch of negotiations before end of Ban Ki-moon’s term as UN secretary general

Algiers- President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika received Sunday in Algiers United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is on an official visit to Algeria.
