Sidati reiterates importance of application of international law in Western Sahara

Paris, 14 March 2022 (SPS) - The Polisario Front representative for France, Mohamed Sidati, said that the best way to contain the conspiracies of Morocco is the exercise by the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination and independence and the application of international law.
During the anti-colonial week organized Saturday and Sunday in Montreuil, near the French capital Paris, the struggle of the Saharawi people was in the spotlight and a debate was devoted to Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, with the participation of the lawyer of the Polisario Front, Gilles Devers, and Mohamed Sidati, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front.
In his speech, Mr. Sidati revealed that "the expansionist Morocco wants to expand the conflict and put the whole region on fire. Hence the urgent need to contain and defeat his conspiracy schemes".
"The most appropriate path remains the exercise by the Sahrawi people of its inalienable right to self-determination and independence, that is to say, the respect and application of international law," he said.
For Mr. Sidati, this is the issue of the hour, given the seriousness of the international context today. "It is necessary to end the policy of double standards. The Sahrawi people must imperatively exercise its legitimate rights for the sake of peace and justice at the global level," said the Sahrawi leader.
"In Western Sahara, there is a denial of justice - the denial of the inalienable right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people - where a brutal repression is exercised, without mercy, an unprecedented violence coupled with an unbridled exploitation and the shameless sale of the natural resources of the territory..."
The Sahrawi representative explained: "To contain the heroic resistance of the Sahrawi people, which has intensified after the breakdown of the ceasefire on November 13, 2020, Morocco calls to the rescue" the Zionist entity and "resorts to the use of sophisticated weapons to sow death and desolation, especially among civilians.
For his part, Mr. Devers stressed that "things are moving quickly at the European courts: the complaints and statements of the Polisario Front, as a national liberation movement, were received by the courts, which led to the cancellation of the illegal EU-Morocco agreements. The lawyer said that the latter did not respect the requirement of consent of the Sahrawi people, which must necessarily be expressed through its legitimate representative, the Polisario Front.
"This is the concordance of European law with international law on the issue of Western Sahara," he added.
