Staffan De Mistura meets with the president of Mauritania, a neighboring country and an observer in the process led by the UN for the decolonization of Western Sahara

Nouakchott (Mauritania), Jan 18, 2022 (SPS)- The Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations to Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, was received yesterday by the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, within the framework of the first visit to the region to meet with the parties involved in the process of decolonization of Western Sahara (Frente POLISARIO and Morocco) and neighboring countries (Mauritania and Algeria).
The meeting, which was also attended by the foreign minister of Mauritania, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, is the third stage for the UN envoy, after meeting with authorities from Morocco and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic. The fourth stage will be in Algiers to finish his visit and meetings in North Africa.SPS
