Staffan de Mistura concludes his visit to Sahrawi refugee camps, heads to Mauritania

Shahid Al Hafed (Sahrawi Refugee Camps), 17 January 2022 (SPS) -  The UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, has concluded, Monday, his visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps, heading to Nouakchott on his third stop, as part of his first tour to the region.

Mr. de Mistura embarks Monday on a visit to Mauritania, as a neighboring and observing country, in the context of the conflict in Western Sahara, between the Polisario Front, the sole and legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, and Morocco.

The Italian-Swedish diplomat visited the Sahrawi refugee camps on Saturday and Sunday, before that he visited Morocco on Thursday and Friday, and he expected to head to Algeria on Tuesday, at the last stop of his first tour of the region, since his appointment in October, as a neighboring and observing country.
