SADR claims full membership to UN as member State

Submitted on

Algiers, 5 April 2021 (SPS) - Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek claimed Monday, in Algiers, a full membership of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to the United Nations, as a member State, renewing SADR’s willingness to support UN’s efforts to speed up the decolonization of Western Sahara.
"The Sahrawi state claims its seat at the United Nations since Morocco, which erects obstacles to the holding of a referendum on self-determination, is convinced that the Sahrawi people is unanimous on its right to independence and sovereignty over its homeland and the land of its ancestors," said Ould Salek during a press conference.
The SADR has been a founding member of the African Union since 1982. (SPS)
