New York (United Nations) 25 October 2020 (SPS)- The Representative if the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia affirmed in the statement of his country before the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly Fourth Committee on Friday that Ethiopia supports self-determination and independence of Western Sahara within the framework of resolution 1514.
“On the matter of Western Sahara, Ethiopia upholds the inalienable right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination and independence in line with the General Assembly resolution 1514 of 1960,” he stressed.
More importantly, he adds “we call on the two parties, Morocco and the Frente POLISARIO, the ones at the centre of this disaccord to resume direct negotiations as called for by the Security Council in its relevant resolutions.”
He further recalled that “with the accession of the Kingdom of Morocco to the African Union in which the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a Member State, we also hope the matter will get a solution within the framework of African solutions to African problems.” (SPS)
