Bir Lahlu,13 October 2020 (SPS) – (Sahrawi Liberated Territories )- President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali on Monday called upon the United Nations and the Security Council to guarantee the security of the Sahrawi citizens in the occupied territories.
Speaking on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Sahrawi People’s National Unity, President Gali said that the practices suffered by the Sahrawi people, in the presence of the MINURSO, require from the UN to work to end these violations against citizens in an international conflict zone.
Sending a clear message to the world, from the liberated Sahrawi territories, the Frente POLISARIO secretary general called on the UN to fulfill its commitments to the Sahrawi people, by allowing them to freely express their sovereign choice, through a self-determination referendum.
Frente POLISARIO chief voiced moreover his surprise over "the practices and readings made either in the reports of the UN Secretary General or in the Security Council meetings, with regard to the multiple violations, without even noticing that the most serious violation is that exercised by the Moroccan occupation which deprives the Sahrawi people from a fundamental right, which is the right to self-determination."
"When the Security Council meetings address ceasefire violations, they turn a blind eye to the gravest and most blatant violations, which is the illegal breach established by Moroccan forces in the El-Guerguerat area," he pointed out.
"There are parties who are trying to cover up this serious and flagrant violation and deprive the MINURSO from a human rights monitoring mechanism in Western Sahara".SPS
