King's speech mirrors tense situation in Morocco

Shaheed El-Hafed, 9 November 2019 (SPS) - MINURSO's Sahrawi Coordinator, M'hamad Khedad, said that the United Nations Security Council resolution constitute a reference for the respect of Sahrawi people right to self-determination, particularly the last resolution 2494, stressing that Morocco's King statements, claiming sovereignty over Western Sahara, reflect the critical situation in Morocco.
"This is a sterile speech and an expression of great concern about the internal situation in Morocco, and the question of Western Sahara is being used to encourage alleged patriotism affected by poverty and lack of opportunity," said Khedad in a statement to El Confidential website.
Morocco acknowledged that, despite the propaganda, the problem remains unresolved, according to Khedad.
"The truth is that no one recognizes Morocco's sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara," he said.
Faced with the status quo, "the Polisario Front has no choice but to reconsider its commitment to the peace process," concluded Khedad. (SPS)
