Paris, 14 October 2019 (SPS) - National Secretary of French Communist Party (PCF) and vice-chairman of the Party of the European Left Pierre Laurent reiterated Saturday his party’s strong support to the Sahrawi people’s claims, notably the inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
In his speech in the demonstration of the Sahrawi community in Europe, organized Saturday at the Place de la République in Paris, Pierre Laurent said that his party “fully supports the claims of demonstrators and all the Sahrawis, notably the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.”
“We don’t want that France leads the battle. All what we demand today is that Paris stops its unconditional support to Morocco and to back the Sahrawi people’s claims in the United Nations to enable them to exercise their right to self-determination and independence. And to work for the release of all the Sahrawi political prisoners in the Moroccan jails,” underlined Laurent in his speech.
“I visited with some deputies the Sahrawi refugee camps and the wall of shame, and we talked a lot about the Sahrawi people’s reality and living conditions,” he added. “We will remain on the Sahrawi people’s side during their liberation struggle until the independence,” he insisted.
Laurent renewed his “support to the struggle of the Sahrawi people and to the Sahrawi community in France during demonstrations and other events so that the Sahrawis could reach all the leaders of the country, United Nations bodies and the international community.”
The Sahrawi community in Europe and participants in this big demonstration of support to the Sahrawi people called for the holding of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara that enables the Sahrawi people to freely decide on their future. (SPS)
