Shaheed Al Hafeed, November 10, 2018 (SPS) -President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, urged the African Union (AU) to stop Moroccan attempts to undermine the organization’s Constitutive Act.
"Since Morocco's accession to the AU, we have witnessed repeated attempts to undermine the organization’s Constitutive Act and unity by ignoring its decisions. I urge the AU to take firm action against such behaviour that reflects a contradictory and dangerous attitude," said Ghali in a speech read on his behalf by President of the Sahrawi National Council, Khatri Addouh at the launch of the "Carmma" campaign at the Sahrawi Refugee Camps on Thursday.
The Sahrawi President welcomed the decisions taken at successive AU summits, expressing "his full readiness" for direct negotiations between the SADR and Morocco as two AU member countries in order to resolve their conflict.”
In addition, Ghali said that the UN Personal Envoy, Horst Kohler, made significant progress through inviting both sides to attend a meeting in Geneva in early December, with the participation of two neighbouring countries, Mauritania and Algeria,.
The Sahrawi official called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibility by imposing the implementation of its decisions to speed up the decolonization process of the last colony in Africa and to allow the Sahrawi people, like other colonized peoples and countries, to enjoy their right to self-determination and independence.
The African "Carmma" campaign was launched on Thursday at the headquarters of the Sahrawi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the presence of President of the Sahrawi National Council, Khatri Addouh, representative of the Sahrawi President, Minister of Public Health, Mohamed Lamine Dedi and a delegation from the AU Commission.
