Debate IV Commission: Uruguay Republic defends UN in the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination

New York, Oct 18, 2018 (SPS) -. The Republic of Uruguay has firmly defended the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
The South American nation said during its speech in the general debate on the issues of decolonization, Special Political and Decolonization Committee, 73 "session of the General Assembly that will continue to defend" with firmness the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and that it is possible to carry out the referendum on the future, in accordance with international legality and in this way, to respond to the legitimate expectations of the Saharawi people. "
In this sense, Uruguay recognizes the role played by the AU, the Secretary General of the UN and his Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Köhler in the peace process.
Regarding the negotiations, the South American country looks with great pleasure among the parties in conflict and hopes that they will develop in an environment of good faith and with a view to achieving a solution to the dispute that allows the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination. .SPS
