Costa Rica Republic supports UN efforts to find a just and lasting solution to Western Sahara conflict

New York, Oct 16, 2018 (SPS) - The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Costa Rica to the United Nations, Ambassador Rodrigo Alberto, affirmed the support of his country to the United Nations efforts to find a just and lasting political solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.

In his intervention during the deliberations of the Fourth Committee on Decolonization at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Costa Rican Ambassador expressed his support for the efforts of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and his Personal Envoy, Mr. Horst Koehler, to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, which guarantees the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination in accordance with the principles of international humanitarian law.

Several States such as Uruguay, Guatemala, Ecuador and the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States expressed their unanimous support for the efforts of the United Nations to find a just and political solution to the conflict that will guarantee the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
