London (UK), Feb 19, 2018 (SPS) - The United Kingdom "fully supports" the peace process led by the UN Secretary General's Personal Envoy to Western Sahara Horst Kohler, the UK Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department of International Development Alistair Burt said Sunday.
The UK minister stressed, in a tweet, that he had met Horst Kohler on the sidelines of Munich peace conference, in Germany, with whom he had a "useful exchange" on Western Sahara conflict.
Burt, in this respect, said "UK fully supports UN-led process to achieve a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to the conflict of Western Sahara, which is occupied by Morocco.
In November, the UK government reiterated its support to Saharawi people's right to self-determination, on the basis of UN Charter's principles.
In reply to a question by MP Alan Brown, member of the Parliamentary Group of Friends of Western Sahara, Burt reiterated London's support to the UN chief's "efforts" to reach a fair and lasting political solution to Western Sahara issue. (SPS)
