UNMS SG takes part in a workshop on ECOSOCC

Victoria (Seychelles),  Oct 31,  2017 (SPS) – the Secretary General of the National Union for Sahrawi Women, Fatma Al-Mahdi, as Vice-President of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of the African Union (ECOSOCC), has participated in a workshop to study ways of revitalizing  the Council, In order to be in the level of response required in the framework of the development battle of the continent and the level of aspirations of the peoples.
The workshop, which is hosted by the capital of the Seychelles Victoria between October 30 to November 01, in the framework of the implementation of the decision of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the African Union No. 849 issued in 2014 during the AU Malabo 25th summit,  the 29th Summit of the General Assembly of the African Union and  the AU Commission in cooperation with States has also called  to conduct an in-depth study, in accordance with the above-mentioned resolution.
The study focuses on the interrelationships between governments and civil society groups, and the review of the structure of the ECOSOCC, particularly the membership criteria and working procedures for revitalizing the work of this important continental institution.
The workshop is attended by many experts and representatives from all African institutions, as well as international experts and representatives of the African community in America and Europe.SPS
