Lima, Sept. 12, 2017 (SPS) - The Peruvian Council for Solidarity with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (COPERERASD) denounced Sunday the arbitrary detention by the immigration authorities in Peru of the Sahrawi ambassador to Latin America, Khadijetou El Mokhtar, according to a statement released on Sunday, a copy of which was received by SPS.
The Peruvian Council for Solidarity with the Sahrawi Republic denounced this attitude against the Saharawi diplomat Khadijetou El Mokhtar, held against his will at the Jorge Chavez airport in Lima by the migration authorities, underlined the communiqué.
Ms. Khadijetou El Mokhtar arrived in Peru to meet with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, in accordance with an agenda agreed with the President of the Republic Brahim Gali last May, the same source added.
The Peruvian Council for Solidarity with SADR called on President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Peruvian Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna to reconsider this "arbitrary" position, calling this treatment unfair against the Saharawi diplomat and tainted Peru's image on the international scene. SPS
