Polisario, SADR officials stress need for greater efforts to win world public opinion

Submitted on

Boumerdes (Algeria), August 13, 2017 (SPS) - Lawyers taking part in the 8th Summer Conference of the Officials of the Polisario Front and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) stressed Saturday, in Boumerdes (50-lm east of Algiers), the need for Western Sahara people to redouble efforts and use all possible means, on every level (human, legal, cultural, sports and military), to win world public opinion.
The speakers on the third day of the conference mainly insisted on the opening of a new fighting front, represented by the Saharawi community abroad, who should mobilize to win world public opinion.
In a paper about Saharawis' right to self-determination, International Law Prof. Boudjemaa Souileh underlined that each of the permanent members of the UN Security Council has "its own view on Western Sahara conflict."
Also, each of them "only considers the advantages it may get for its own people (from Western Sahara)," hence the stalemate reached in the negotiation process.
For instance, the International Law professor carried on, Western Sahara's fishing resources "are not harnessed by the Saharawi people, but instead by one of the Security Council's permanent member, namely France."
"Other natural resources (in Western Sahara), like iron, phosphate, oil and gas are used by other world superpowers."
Prof. Souileh called on Saharawi people and the SADR to insist on the resolutions of the United Nations, which should "strengthen its presence in Western Sahara territories, by providing more prerogatives to the MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara), including monitoring of Morocco's respect of Saharawi people's human rights."
