Considerable material damage in El Aaiun Camps following the recent heavy rains (SRC)

ChahId El Hafed, August 18, 2016 (SPS) -  The heavy rain that was recently hit  the camps of El Aaiun in the Saharawi refugee camps has caused considerable damage to many tents and adobe houses of Saharawi refugees.
 
According to a statement of Saharawi Red Crescent (SRC), rains has left 11 people injured, one of them in serious condition and 6 of them were evacuated to the hospital in the Algerian city of Tindouf.
 
More than 400 families have witnessed in whole or in part destruction in their homes, and considerably lost in their monthly food shares, while the educational institutions and training centers infrastructure has suffered significant damages, the statement adds.
 
The statement pointed out that the Sahrawi said organization along with  a joint mission composed of 12 organizations, including United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations working in refugee camps, has reviewed the  humanitarian situation left by the rain and the urgent needs arising from the assessment.
 
In this regard, the Saharawi Red Crescent praised the efforts of  the public authorities and international humanitarian organizations operating  in the camps in  providing urgent humanitarian needs, and calls on donors once again to support these efforts and to provide urgent contributions to respond to needs arising from this natural disaster.
