Sahrawi cause records diplomatic victory at UN

Washington, June 19, 2016 (SPS) - The Sahrawi cause has recorded Friday “a diplomatic victory” at the United Nations (UN) with “the definitive recognition of the Polisario Front as the only legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people,” said the representative of the Polisaio Front at UN Ahmed Boukhari.
“This diplomatic victory occurs at the moment where UN, through the Security Council, is exerting pressure on Morocco to allow the return of the staff of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINUROS),” said Boukhari in a statement to APS.
“It puts an end to a long period of Moroccan pressures and manoeuvres to impose to the committee conditions which are contrary to the international law and the principles decreed by the Committee of 24,” he added.
The speech of boukhari in the committee coincided with the 46th anniversary of the Intifida of Zimla against the Spanish occupation which marked on 17 June 1970 a new milestone in the struggle of the Sahrawi people to gain their independence, he underlined.
On Friday, the members of the UN special committee on decolonization, known as Committee of 24, who met in an ordinary session, adopted by consensus a note in which they reaffirmed that the Polisario Front is the only representative of the Sahrawi people. (SPS)
