Algiers, June 13, 2016 (SPS) - Polisario Front will hold its extraordinary congress in early July to elect its Secretary General and new Sahrawi president, announced Sunday the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
"Polisario Front's extraordinary congress will be held in early July to elect the Front's secretary general and the new Sahrawi president, who will succeed late president Mohamed Abdelaziz," the Sahrawi Foreign minister told a press conference held Sunday at the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers.
"Thanks to its late president and to the struggle of its people, Western Sahara has built strong institutions," he said.
"Following the vacancy for the position of the head of State and secretary general of Polisario Front after the death of president Mohamed Abdelaziz, and in accordance with the articles 46, 47 and 48 of the Sahrawi Constitution, Sahrawi National Assembly's Speaker Khatri Adouh has become interim president of the Republic and interim secretary general of Polisario Front for 40 days, until the election of a new president and secretary general," explained Ould Salek.
The Sahrawi Foreign minister recalled that "Polisario Front is a national liberation movement struggling for the independence of Western Sahara."SPS
