Bir Lahlou (Liberated Territories), April 16, 2016 (SPS)- President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, urged the United Nations to take “concrete measures” regarding the “dangerous developments” in Western Sahara to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination on the basis of a “fair and democratic” solution.
“Only a fair and democratic solution” is able to “allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their legitimate right to freedom and self-determination,” on the basis of the United Nations Charter and resolutions, said the Sahrawi President in a letter sent Thursday to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, concerning the “dangerous developments” confronting UN’s efforts in favour of the Sahrawi cause.
In this regard, and in front of the stubbornness of Morocco which persists in violating the international law, Abdelaziz insisted on the need that the Security Council takes “concrete measures” in the face of the “intransigence of Morocco and its scorn for UN resolutions and the international community.”
He underlined that “the Sahrawi people, oppressed and deprived of their rights for more than 40 years, will find themselves once again forced to defend their rights by all legitimate means, including the armed struggle” so that to “restore their right to freedom and self-determination.” (SPS)
