EU MP calls for respect human rights in the occupied territories

Brussels (Belgium), April 6, 2016 (SPS) - European MP, Mr. Joao Ferreira on Tuesday called upon the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union Federica Mogherini to ask the Moroccan authorities to respect human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and to stop any repression against the civilian population.

In a written question to European diplomacy head, Ms. Mugireny European,  MP called for the inclusion of the issue of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara in the political dialogue with Morocco in accordance with the provisions of the partnership agreement between the two sides, particularly those relating to respect for human rights.
 
Mr. Ferreira said on the basis of the Sahrawi Association of Human Rights that the Moroccan security forces have suppressed "strongly" two recent peaceful uprisings in Boujdour, Sahrawi demanding to decent live, work, and end the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.
 
Joao Ferreira also brought the attention of the head of EU diplomacy to the situation of the Sahrawi political prisoner Mohamed Bambari on hunger strike since mid-December 2015.SPS
