Algiers, 21 March 2016 (SPS) -Secretary General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Abdelhamid Senouci Bereksi and Representative of the World Food Program (WFP) in Algeria will ink Monday the letter of agreement of 2016 between Algeria, as a host country, and this UN humanitarian agency to cover basic food needs of Sahrawi refugees.
Some 125.000 people among vulnerable refugees will benefit from this measure and two complementary programs. The first affects children under the age of 5 suffering from malnutrition and pregnant women, i.e. 22.500 beneficiaries, whereas 32.500 children will benefit from support for school canteens, the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced Sunday in communiqué.
The indicative value of this aid is estimated at USD 25.235.022, the same source said.
WFP works in Algeria since 1963 and has an office in Tindouf since 1985 in which an expatriated staff supervises distribution of aid to Sahrawi refugees. (SPS)
