Annulment of two EU-Morocco agreements, “resounding victory” for Sahrawis

Algiers, 30 September 2021 (SPS) - The annulment of two agreements between the European Union (EU) and the Kingdom of Morocco on agreement and fishing by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) is a “resounding victory for the legitimate cause of the Sahrawi people,” said Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra.

Geneva, Sept 29, 2021 (SPS) - The baseless allegations, spread by three pro-Moroccan NGOs at the Human Rights Council in Geneva about the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, are politically-motivated and they "deliberately conceal the reason that led Western Sahara people to flee their territory to seek refuge in Algeria," Algeria's mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva said.

European General Court annuls EU trade and fishing agreements with Morocco

Luxembourg, Sept 29, 2021 (SPS) - In a historic ruling whose implications will go beyond the economic, the General Court of the European Union has declared this Wednesday, September 29, illegal the commercial and fishing agreements signed between Brussels and Morocco in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for illegally including Western Sahara, the last non-autonomous territory in Africa that has waited for decades to exercise its recognized right to self-determination.

Algiers, 27 September 2021 (SPS) - Regardless of the European Court’s verdict expected on 29 September, no foreign company has the right to invest in Western Sahara as part of an agreement concluded with Morocco, in accordance with judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) delivered in 2016 and which clearly distinguishes between the Moroccan and Sahrawi territories, stressed the Polisario Front’s lawyer Gilles Devers.

SPLA carries out new attacks against Moroccan forces' entrenchment in Awsard sector

Bir Lahlou, 26 September 2021 (SPS) - Units of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) carried out Sunday new attacks against the entrenchments of the Moroccan occupation forces in the Awsard sector, according to the military communiqué No. 319 of the Ministry of Defense.
The military communiqué stated that "the units of the Sahrawi People's Army carried out attentive attacks targeting the entrenchments of the Moroccan occupation soldiers in the areas of Kalb Al-Nass, Astila Ould Boukerin, and Adim Oum Ajloud in the Awsard sector.

Lamamra and Guterres discuss Western Sahara issue

New York (UN), 26 September 2021 (SPS) - The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad met on Saturday with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the discussions focused on regional issues, in particular Western Sahara, Libya and Mali, a UN statement indicated.
"The Secretary General met today with Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria. The Secretary General and the Minister discussed regional issues, including Western Sahara, Libya and Mali," the source said.

Government of Belize reiterates its support for self-determination of Sahrawi people

New York (UN), 26 September 2021 (SPS) - Belize Prime Minister John Briceno reiterated on Friday "his support for the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination", urging "the parties concerned and the international community to support it in its efforts".
"The Sahrawi people is also prevented from exercising its right to self-determination. We urge the parties concerned and the international community to support it in its efforts," Mr Briceno stressed in an address to the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

Lesotho defends self-determination of Sahrawi people

Spain defends "central role" of UN in Sahrawi issue

New York (United Nations), 25 September 2021 (SPS) - The head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, called on Thursday in New York, for "a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to the Western Sahara issue, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
"Spain continues to defend the central role of the UN and we support the efforts of the Secretary General" regarding the Sahrawi issue, he recalled during the work of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

South African President calls for self-determination of the Sahrawi people at UN

New York, (United Nations), 25 September 2021 (SPS) - The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, reaffirmed Thursday in New York, the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination in accordance with the relevant decisions of the AU and UN Security Council resolutions.
"We reaffirm our position on the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination in accordance with the relevant decisions of the African Union (AU) and the resolutions of the UN Security Council," said Cyril Ramaphosa during his speech at the UN.

Namibian president defends Sahrawi people's right to independence at UN

New York (United Nations), 25 September 2021 (SPS) - The president of Namibia, Hage G. Geingob, defended on Thursday in New York for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence, welcoming the appointment of Alexander Ivanko, the new special representative of the UN Secretary General in Western Sahara.
"It is now almost 50 years that the people of Western Sahara are still waiting to exercise their inalienable right to freedom and independence," the Namibian president lamented during his speech at the UN.
