UN must assume moral, legal responsibilities towards Western Sahara people (Zwelivelile Mandela)

Algiers, March 31, 2018 (SPS) - The member of the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, Zwelivelile Mandela on Friday, in Algiers, called the UN Security Council to assume its moral and legal responsibilities towards Western Sahara people and to set a date for a referendum on their self-determination.

Sidati alerts EU to serious human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara

Brussels, March 31, 2018 (SPS) - Sahrawi Minister for Europe Mohamed Sidati on Thursday has alerted, once again, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, to the serious situation of Sahrawi human rights activists in the occupied Western Sahara.

"We reiterate the alert we launched on 15 March 2018 in a letter to Mogherini," Sidati told APS.

MINURSO: Guterres proposes $53.87 million budget during year 2018-19

New York, March 31, 2018 (SPS) – UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres has proposed a budget of $53.87 million to maintain the functioning of the UN Mission for the referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso) for the mandate from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.

The budget proposal does not include voluntary contributions worth $ 519,000, according to the General Secretariat document, seen by APS.

South Africa signs MOU with Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic
