Death of Sahrawi president: Council of Ministers observes minute's silence

Algiers,  May 31, 2016 (SPS) - President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has began the Council of the Ministers meeting, which he chaired Tuesday in Algiers, with a minute's silence and by reading Al-Fatiha (The Opening, the first Chapter of the Holy Qur'an), in the memory of the late Sahrawi President and Secretary General of Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz. The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz has passed away

Bir Lahlou,  May 31, 2016 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz passed away Tuesday May 31, 2016 following a long illness, according to a statement  issued  today by the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front.
The National Secretariat expressed its condolences to the Sahrawi people and announced 40 days of national mourning.

Moroccan occupying authorities crack violently down Unemployed Sahrawi peaceful sit-in

Occupied Aaiun, May 31, 2016 (SPS) – Various formations of Moroccan repressive forces intervened on Monday against  a peaceful sit-in organized by Unemployed Sahrawi in the Occupied Aaiun, leaving injuries among the unemployed, said the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.
 
They organized the sit-in to demand their basic rights, especially the benefit of their wealth, stressing in the same context, adherence to their legitimate demands despite the intransigence of the Moroccan regime.SPS

Algerian Caravan of solidarity with the Saharawi child kicks off towards the Saharawi camps

Algiers, May 31, 2016 (SPS) - Caravan of solidarity with the Saharawi child left Monday the Algerian capital Algiers towards the Saharawi refugee camps.
Algerian caravan started its travel from the headquarters of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the presence of the Ambassador of SADR in Algeria, Mr. Bachraya Bayun and officials of Ministry of Algerian youth.

UN: Seminar on decolonization of non-self-governing territories scheduled for Tuesday in Managua

Washington (U.S.A) ), May 31, 2016 (SPS) - The United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, “the Committee of 24,” will hold a regional seminar, Tuesday, in Managua (Nicaragua) to examine the situation of non-self-governing territories, including Western Sahara.
The ultimate goal of this three-day meeting is to accelerate the implementation of the third international decade for the eradication of colonialism (2011-2020) proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly.

Participants at Brussels semi-marathon express support to Western Sahara people

Brussels (Belgium), May 31, 2016 (SPS) - Participants at the 37th Brussels 20-Km semi-marathon expressed Sunday their support to the struggle of Saharawi people for the holding of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.
A group of Sahara Libre (Free Sahara) runners carrying Saharawi flags crossed the city of Brussels, on the occasion of the semi-marathon, chanting slogans for the respect of Saharawi people's basic rights, and especially their inalienable right to self-determination.

Chikoti: UN must put Sahrawi issue among its priorities

Oslo, May 27,2016 (SPS) -The Sahrawi issue must be among the priorities of the United Nations, Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Georges Chikoti, calling for the completion of the decolonization process in Africa.
"The UN must step up the decolonization process of the last African colony and hold the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara," Chikoti stated after talks he holds with Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.

Occupied Aaiun, May 26, 2016 (SPS) - The Moroccan repressive forces have arrested Sahrawi media Activist Embarek  Fahimi, according to media source from the occupied territories.
He was arrested on Tuesday in the North check point of the occupied city of Aaiun, on the ground of his media activities along with his colleagues of News Activists Network aiming at break the media blackout imposed by the Moroccan occupation on the occupied part of Western Sahara.SPS

Algiers, May 26, 2016 (SPS) - Algeria has always militated in the vanguard of the joint African action for the triumph of the continent's causes, said Wednesday in Algiers Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
"The praiseworthy joint action of the African Union (AU) for the decolonization of Western Sahara shows Africa's faithfulness to its history," said Lamamra in his address to mark Africa Day.

Sahrawi people await MINURSO return to mission

Algiers, May 24, 2016 (SPS) - The Sahrawi people await the return of MINURSO to the region to organize self-determination referendum, Mohamed El Amine, member of the National Secretariat of Polisario Front affirmed Tuesday in Algiers.
He added that the Sahrawi people are ready to regain its spoiled right, even 25 years after stopping the armed fight.

Saharawi cultural delegation begins visit to Uruguay

Montevideo, May 24, 2016 (SPS) - A delegation of the Ministry of Culture, headed by the Central Director of Cinematography Mr. Omar Ahmuddi, has started a working visit for two weeks, to the brother Republic of Uruguay.
The Saharawi delegation was received yesterday by Mr. Esteban Shoeder,  Filmmaker and founding member of the collective ASOPROD,  (Association of filmmakers and producers).

Human rights in Western Sahara: UN must assume its responsibilities

Over 20 tonnes of foodstuffs for Sahrawi refugees

Madrid, May 21, 2016 (SPS) - The association of friends with Sahrawi people of Toledo Mora (Spain) has sent 22 tonnes of foodstuffs (sugar, rice and flour) to the Sahrawi refugee camps.
“The humanitarian aid, made up mainly of 13,700 kg of sugar and 7,535 kg of rice, was transported by an articulated lorry to the port of Alicante to be sent, afterwards, to the Port of Oran,” said the association Saturday in a communiqué.
