Chahid El Hafed,
09/11/2007 (SPS) The Saharawi Coordinator with the MINURSO,
Mhamed Khadad, deplored the fact that Morocco has hindered, at
the last minute, the organisation of a Seminar on the Saharawi
culture that was planed to take place within the framework of
the confidence-building measures initiated by the UN as part of
the peace plan.
Here is the complete text of the press release Mr. Khaddad
issued in reaction to the Moroccan attitude:
Statement of Mhamed Khadad, Saharawi Coordinator with the
MINURSO
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees just informed the Saharawi
authorities that due to Moroccan rejection it was decided to
annul the holding of the Seminar on the Saharawi Culture that
was planed -following the accords of confidence-building
measures of 2002- to take place from November 12th to the 16th
2007 in Madeira (Portugal), with the participation of some 40
Saharawi poets and experts from the two sides of the Moroccan
wall of occupation.
Morocco has thus demonstrated, anew, its bad will and obstinacy
to jeopardize all the UN decisions it accepted before, including
those related to the humanitarian questions.
POLISARIO Front condemns this arrogant and contemptible attitude
by Morocco that comes to confirm its deliberate blockage of the
UN’s efforts aimed to reach a solution that guarantee the right
to the Saharawi people to self-determination as stipulated in
all the UN’s resolution including the resolution 1783 of 31
October 2007.
POLISARIO Front, which has positively answered and fully
subscribed to the confidence-building measures decided by the
UN, including the participation to the Cultural Seminar in
Madeira, calls on the UNHCR and the UN to assume their full
responsibilities in the full implementation of this humanitarian
program and to take all necessary measures to push Morocco put
an end to its rebellion and disrespect to the law and to the
international legality.
