Algiers,
07/11/2007 (SPS) The European Commission Humanitarian Office
(ECHO) granted the Saharawi refugees one million Euros, World
Food Program (WFP) announced on Wednesday, stressing that this
quantity of food that covers 26 days, "will participate in
decreasing the pressure" on the stock of food distributed by the
UN body.
"This funds will be used to buy 1.400 tons floor, 250 tons sugar
and 200 tons soda beans to the profit of 125.000 most vulnerable
refugees", indicated a press release by the person in charge of
WFP operation in Algeria, Omar Ali.
The Saharawi Red Crescent (CRS) had criticised WFP, in the mid
October, for "having not honoured its engagements" towards the
Saharawi refugees, who completely depend of the intentional
humanitarian aid, accusing it of "bad management of the
donations collected to the profit of the Saharawi refugees".
Wold Food Program (WFP) affirmed that the delays registered in
the sending of food aid to the Saharawi refugee camps during
October was due to the delays in the reception of goods because
of the sudden cut of transaction of buying at local level.
The press release also recalls that WFP "provides for the
Saharawi people 1986", indicating that the total of the help
supplied so far is some 153 millions dollars". (SPS)
