SADR/MOROCCO

Saharawi government firmly condemns the "obstinate" position of the Moroccan king

Algiers, 07/11/007 (SPS) A spokesperson of the Saharawi Republic firmly condemned on Wednesday the "obstinate" position of the Moroccan king, Mohamed VI, that defies the international legality expressed by all the resolutions of the UN General Assembly and Security Council on Western Sahara.

In a press release, of which SPS received a copy, the Saharawi official noted that the king of Morocco reiterated Tuesday in a speech "the Moroccan State’s violation of the international legality and the denial of its engagements, trying to impose the fait accompli especially by declaring that no matter what the formula of the solution is consensual that will emerge of serious negotiations, according to a global strategic vision, Morocco, its king and its people, will never accept but autonomy within the framework of the Moroccan State".

On the other, the Saharawi official estimated that this attitude "is contrary to the international legality and inscribe in a context of raise of tensions moving away from the process negotiations enabling the Saharawi people to exercise its right of self-determination conforming to the UN Security Council’s resolution 1754".

The policy of fait accompli "can never get legitimate through speeches and unilateral acts", the Saharawi government’s spokesperson underlined, stressing that the best way to overcome the obstacles is "the strict and sincere respect of the international resolutions and the adoption of a vision of future aiming to build constructive relations between the Saharawi and Moroccan peoples that contributes to the construction of a Maghreb able to face the challenges and demands of neighbourhood and peaceful cohabitation".
