03/11/2007 (SPS) The United States is satisfied that the UN has
been able to oranise direct talks between the parties to the
conflict of Western Sahara, POLISARIO Front and Morocco, the
American Ambassador, Robert Ford, indicated on Thursday in
Algiers in the eve of the adoption of anew UN Security Council´s
resolution calling to the pursuit of negotiations for a just
political solution that provides for the Saharawi people´s right
to self-determination.
The American dplomat affirmed in a statement to the Algerian
Press Service, APS, that the United States is "satisfied that
the UN were able to organise a set of direct negotiations
between the parties" to the conflict on Western Sahara,
POLISARIO Front and Morocco.
''We think that this is a real step forwards'', he stressed,
adding that 'we vividly hope that these negotiations reach a
lasting solution because the Saharawi people has suffered a
lot".
The UN Security Council asked Morocco and POLISARIO in a new
resolution (1783) to continue the negotiations without
preconditions and in good will so as to reach a just, lasting
and mutually acceptable political solution that provides for the
self-determination of the Saharawi people".
