London,
03/11/2007 (SPS) The Collective of the Saharawi Human Rights
Defenders (CODESA) asked for the "opening of an international
investigation on the serious human rights violations committed
by the Moroccan State in the occupied territories of Western
Sahara and bringing their authors before Justice".
In this respect, Mrs. Aminetou Haidar, vice-president of the
CODESA affirmed that the Collective "calls on the international
human rights organisations and associations" to pressure Morocco
so as to compel it "respect human rights in Western Sahara and
implement the international legality enabling the Saharawi
people to exercise their right to self-determination".
Mrs. Haidar declared on Thursday to the Algerian Press Service,
APS, that these claims are clearly stated in a press release
publicised two days ago by the CODESA on the occasion of the
celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the martyrdom
of the Saharawi youngster, Hamdi Lambarki, who was killed under
torture by the Moroccan police in the middle of the streets of
the occupied city of El Aaiun.
"The Moroccan State is directly accountable of hundreds
abductions of Saharawi citizens since October the 31st 1975 with
526 Saharawi civilian disappeareds", CODESA estimated in the
text of the press release.
