A Saharawi delegation in the ordinary session of the South African Communist Party Central Committee  

    

Johannesburg, 31/05/2007 (SPS) A Saharawi delegation composed of Saharawi human rights activist, Fatma Ayach and representatives of the international movements of solidarity with the Saharawi people attended the ordinary session of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party, on Saturday in Johannesburg following an official invitation, indicated a source from the Saharawi Embassy in Pretoria.

 

Many personalities of the South African Communist Party were present, such as Mr. Blade Nzimande, Secretary General of the Party and his Deputy, Geremy Cronin as well as some Ministers and members of the Political Bureau and the Central Committee of the party, the same source indicated.

 

Mrs. Fatma Ayach presented a moving testimony on "the serious human rights violations and abuses systematically and daily perpetrated by the Moroccan colonial authorities against the Saharawi defenceless civilians". 

 

She also stressed "the legal and moral responsibility of the UN in the dramatic situation in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara", asking for "the establishment of mechanisms for the protection of the Saharawi civilians from the crimes committed every day against them in the territories occupied by Morocco".

 

Mrs. Ayach also underlined that "the UN silence in the face of the tragedy the Saharawis are suffering in a systematic way is a shame to this organisation and to the international community". 

 

Mrs. Helena Fiddian from the British movement of solidarity an Mr. Ismael Dich of the Algerian Committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS) reaffirmed "the duty of the international community to help the Saharawi people", before they underlined "the horrors practiced by the Moroccan colonialism against the Saharawi people" and the "heavy cope covering these criminal practices". 

 

The Saharawi Pan African Parliamentarian, Mr. Saleh El Abd, expressed, on behalf of the Saharawi people, "deep gratitude towards the South African people and government and towards the South African Communist Party for the support to the Saharawi people in this current tragedy". 

 

The Communist Party Central Committee "vividly condemns the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and the atrocious crimes committed against the Saharawi people", affirming "the support of the South African Communist Party to the Saharawi people until the final victory". (SPS)
