31/03/2007 (SPS) A Conference-debate on the theme "the situation in
Western Sahara, especially in the occupied territories", opened last
Thursday at the International Centre "Olof Palm" in Stockholm, under
the presidency of Mrs. Anne Lind, indicated a source from the
Saharawi representation in Sweden.
The conference was attended by political personalities, journalists,
parliamentarians, representatives of governmental and
non-governmental organisations as well as member of the movement of
solidarity with the Saharawi people, in addition to the
representative of the Polisario Front in Sweden, Lamin Baali, the
same source indicated.
In her intervention, Mrs. Lind talked about the history of the
decolonisation conflict of the Western Sahara and the struggle of
the Saharawi people, within the framework of the international
legality, for freedom and emancipation.
The person in charge of the international relations of the Swedish
Social Democrat Party underlined, on his part, that the logical
solution of the conflict is the exercise by the Saharawi people of
their right to self-determination through a free and just
referendum.
Mrs. Lind also talked about the situation in the occupied
territories stressing on the peaceful resistance that is taking
place and the fierce repression of which the Saharawi civilians are
victims in there.
Among the speakers, the Swedish journalist, Lars Bjork, who was
lately expulsed from the occupied city of El Aaiun by the Moroccan
forces of occupation, described the circumstances of his expulsion
and the situation of the human rights in the occupied cities of the
Western Sahara in addition to the "difficult conditions faced by the
Saharawi human rights activists".
From the Saharawi part, the director of "20 of May", Polisario
Front’s official journal, Mr. Hamdi Hafed, who was invited to this
conference, gave a to the audience an idea about the last
developments of the Saharawi question.
On another hand, Mr. B.Johanssen, person in charge o the external
relations of the city of Stockholm, who participated to the
international conference of solidarity with the Saharawi people,
which was organised last February 26 in Tifariti (liberated
territories of he Saharawi Republic) on the occasion of the 31st
anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic, presented a
testimony calling the audience to contribute to the concretisation
an success of that conference. (SPS)
