Cape Town, 29/03/2007 (SPS The Saharawi Ambassador in South
Africa, Ubbi Bouchraya, was received on Wednesday at the seat of the
museum of the South African air forces in Cape Town by the staff of
the military plane "Shackleotn MK III", which had an accident last
July 1994 in Aghoueinit, in the liberated territories of the Western
Sahara.
The staff of the plane expressed, on behalf of the South African air
forces and on behalf of the families of the members, "their deep
thanks and gratitude to the fighters and officers of the Saharawi
Liberation Army, which had saved their lives and hosted the for five
days since the crash of their plane, in July 13, 1994.
The Director of the museum, who was also a member of the staff, Mr.
Chris Yeale, said that this accident was "an occasion of a good
souvenir and acquaintance with this extraordinary people". That
accident, he said, "made of us, in a way or another, a part of the
Saharawi people struggle, which occupies an important part of the
life of each one of us".
It should be recalled that the South African military plane,
Shackleotn MK III, which was heading towards Great Britain crashed
down in the eve of July 13, 1994 in the region of Aghoueinit (the
liberated territories of the Western Sahara), but all the members of
the staff were rescued by the Saharawi fighters and hosted for five
days before they were repatriated to their country. (SPS)
