Brussels,
29/03/2007 (SPS) The Minister Delegated for Europe, Mohamed Sidati,
declared on Wednesday in the Belgian Senate (Brussels) that the "so
called solution of autonomy" proposed by Morocco "is a
re-questioning of the cease-fire that Morocco and POLISARIO Front
accepted as part of the referendum process in the Western Sahara".
But, he said that the Saharawis continue to prefer the peaceful
ways, during his intervention before the Belgian Senate’s Foreign
Affairs Commission where he was invited to present the POLISARIO
Front’s point of view after the exposition of the Moroccan autonomy
plan before the same commission last Monday.
"The Saharawi people is patient and accepted to give concessions
within the framework of the Baker Plan, but one can not ask them to
jump to the precipice", he underlined.
The Belgium Senator, Pierre Galland, declared before the commission
that the principle according to which "the self-determination must
remain the basis of all approach of the Saharawi crisis, as
stipulated in the different UN’s resolutions since 1973".
On his part, the vice-president of the Foreign Affairs’ Commission,
Senator Josy Dubié, asked for the "respect the international
legality" and the "Saharawi people’s right to self-determination",
hoping that the government of Belgium will work to respect this
principle.
A
third speaker, the Parliamentarian Jacinta De Broek regretted the
conditions of the Saharawi people’s life in the refugee camps, and
expressed her regrets about the reactions of some countries, such as
France and Spain, to the so-called "autonomy Plan", while "none
knows about the content of the plan". (SPS)
