Rome, 25/03/2007 (SPS) The authorities of the Italian region of
Emilie Romagna (north Italy) recently reaffirmed their commitment to
maintain and develop their relations with the Saharawi people and
support its claims for the implementation of the UN’s resolutions,
especially the holding of a referendum on self-determination as
defined in the Baker Plan.
During her meeting with he Saharawi Minister of Cooperation, Mr.
Salek Baba Hacena, who is undertaking a visit to Italy, the
President of the Legislative Assembly of Emilie Romagna, Mrs. Monica
Donini, reiterated the will of her region to "support the Saharawi
people in its peaceful struggle for independence and to bring all
necessary help to materialise its objectives".
After
having recalled the motion adopted by her Assembly, which exhorted
the Italian government to pay all efforts with the international
bodies for the implementation of the UN’s resolutions, Mrs. Donini
promised to "concretely show" the solidarity of her region with the
Saharawi population through cooperation projects and assistance to
the Saharawi refugees.
The
President of the Emilie Romagna Legislative Assembly expressed her
concern regarding the "precarious situation" lived by the Saharawi
populations in the Saharawi refugee camps, after the decrease of the
international humanitarian aid. (SPS)
