SADR/GREAT BRITAIN/CULTURE

Saharawi Cultural night of solidarity in Canning House (London)

London, 22/03/2007 (SPS) A Saharawi cultural right of solidarity was organised on Tuesday evening in London on the initiative of the non governmental organisation "Sandblast", within the framework of a campaign aiming to introduce the Saharawi cultural and literary heritage to the British audience.

The demonstration that took place in Canning House in London, was inaugurated with a speech of the President of Sandbladt, Mrs. Danielle Smith, ho evoked the last developments of the Saharawi question.

She also put forward the deepness and the authenticity of the culture of Western Sahara as well as the role of its cultural heritage in the consecration of a Saharawi culture, which is distinguished by its style of expression and its aesthetic and artistic values.

Poems were recited by young Saharawi poets, Limam Abicha and El-Ouali Lahcen, who write their poetry in Spanish, what reflects the important cultural ties that links the Saharawi culture with the Spanish and the Latino American’s.

Other poets such as the Chilean, Carlos Reyes-Marzo, and Cuban, Omar Garcia, recited poems, of which the first was inspired by poet Reyes-Marzo to the Saharawi refugee camps and to the liberated territories of the Saharawi Republic, while the second talks about the sufferings of the exile in a remarkable poetical style.

In the end of the night, the young Saharawi singer, Mrs. Aziza Ibrahim, charmed the audience with its Saharawi traditional and modern songs before she was joined by the Venezuelan singer, Luzmira. (SPS)
