21/03/2007 (SPS) World Federation Of Democratic Youth (WFDY)
"reaffirmed its solidarity with the Saharawi people in their
struggle for the establishment of an independent State, asking for
the withdrawal of the Moroccan troops from the Western Sahara and
the release of the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan
prisons", an official Saharawi source indicated.
The WFDY "supports in this respect the efforts of the UN for a
peaceful solution on the basis of the respect of the Saharawi
people’s right to self-determination trough a free and just
referendum so as the Saharawi people can decide over their future",
indicated the final statement of the WFDY 17th General
Assembly, held from the 9th to the 14th of
March 2007 in Hanoi (Vietnam).
During this Assembly, the Saharawi youth was represented by a
delegation chaired by the person in charge of the foreign affairs,
Mahfoudh Salama, who met with the participating delegations and
intervened during the evening of solidarity organised by the African
delegations in favour of the Saharawi people’s struggle for
independence.
The Union of the Youth of Saguia el Hamra y Rio de Oro (UJSARIO) was
elected to the WFDY General Council and designated a the coordinator
for the activities of the African youth, while "Morocco did not
succeed to be elected in this body", the same source said.
