Madrid,
17/03/2007 (SPS) The speech of king Juan Carlos in Algiers gave back
"hope and dignity" to the Saharawi people, whose rights are "above
all interests and bargaining’’, wrote the Spanish newspaper, La
Razon, in a commentary under the title "King’s word".
"In Algiers, the king gave back to the children of the Sahara hope
and dignity in few words and without doubts. He was able in a single
phrase rectify and denounce an injustice, standing beside those who
suffered a prejudice", La Razon underlines.
The newspaper affirms that the Saharawi people "does not deserve the
ignorance of the international policy" of the Spanish socialist
government, because, the newspaper adds, "the Saharawis’ rights are
above all interests and bargaining between Rabat and Madrid".
It recalled that the UN is trying for the last 30 years to enable
the Saharawi people "to decide over their future" after having been
"abandoned to their fate" by Spain in what was not a decolonisation,
but a "flight provoked" by the regime of the late Hassan II.
"(The president of the Spanish government, José Luis Rodriguez)
Zapatero does not seem to remember these times, nor promises that
were given then (before the withdrawal from the territory), and it
was necessary that it is the king, who recalled with pertinence the
engagements of Spain vis-à-vis the Saharawis", the newspaper
stressed. (SPS)
