Madrid, 15/03/2007 (SPS) The Moroccan "autonomy plan" for the
Western Sahara is "unacceptable" because it violates the political
and juridical principles defined by the United Nations for the
settlement of the Western Sahara conflict, a Spanish Parliamentarian
affirmed on Wednesday evening.
In an intervention before the Spanish Congress of Deputies (low
Chamber f the Parliament), in presence of the President of the
Spanish government, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the
parliamentarian of the Coalicion Canarias Party, Roman Rodriguez,
accused the Head of the executive of "modifying" the "Spanish
traditional position of the last 30 years" on the Western Sahara
conflict.
"The Moroccan proposition of autonomy for the Sahara generates
confusion and rejection from the Spanish public opinion in addition
of the second party to the conflict, Polisario Front.
The proposition is unacceptable because it violates two principles
of the political and legal principles fixed by the UN in the
conflict", the first of the "principles is that the propositions can
not be unilateral", the second is the Moroccan proposition rejects
“the right to self-determination", which is a pillar principle in
the UN’s Charter, Mr. Roman Rodriguez recalled.
